Information for Schools, families and Guardians about the program:

Fellow community partner,

We are pleased to introduce you to NOLA LEARNING SUPPORT & CONSULTING, an established L3C (a low profit limited liability company with a social mission) with a community benefit program in Uptown New Orleans on Oak Street. We offer free educational services to dyslexic students (or who are suspected to be dyslexic) in the New Orleans Public Schools with the generous support from a grant from the Goldring Family Foundation.

As part of our educational outreach initiatives, we are pleased to invite your school to join in partnership with us and explore the opportunities we have for your students.

Requirements for consideration:

  • Student is diagnosed or suspected of having dyslexia

  • Student is in or between grades 1 - 5

  • Student is enrolled at a New Orleans public school

  • Student's family income qualifies them for free lunch (see income guidelines chart)

Opportunities include:

-Educational Therapy (during and/or after school)

-Parent Education

-Professional Development

The purpose of our outreach initiative is to optimize students' academic success within our community. Our educational program is offered by a certified Educational Therapist. An ET uses strategies and interventions that provides a link between the latest research and customized remediation.

Some information below explains the role of an Educational Therapist, and there is more information at the association’s website: https://www.aetonline.org/

Educational Therapy offers children and adults with learning disabilities and other learning challenges a wide range of intensive, individualized interventions designed to remediate learning problems. It demystifies learning problems and stimulates clients’ awareness of their strengths. This strength based approach empowers students to use their strengths to overcome or leverage areas of weakness. The Educational Therapist creates and implements a treatment plan that utilizes information from a variety of sources including the client’s social- emotional, psychoeducational and neuropsychological context. (AET, 2009) An Educational Therapist provides individualized intensive interventions, formal and informal assessments and advocates for their clients. They recognize the influence of students’ emotional state and inner world on their sense of well- being and readiness to learn. (Ficksman & Adelizzi, 2010).

We hope that you join us to make these opportunities available to two students in 1st-5th grade this year who may be needing reading and writing intervention.

Please Note: Due to time constraints, we will be providing services on a first come first serve basis and students will need approval by our selection committee.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
