Kate's Summer SErvices

Educational Therapy Sessions:
Summer Sessions are open for booking! I will continue to offer tailored services that cater to each child's specific academic needs with customized remediation. I teach reading, spelling and writing utilizing phonological awareness with a sequential, multisensory, structured literacy approach. This will include baseline / end of summer informal assessments, a remediation plan and suggestions for at home practice. I use a variety of materials, and assistive technology in my practice. My training and methods include multi-sensory methodologies such as Orton-Gillingham (IMSE), the Wilson Reading System, Great Leaps, UFLI Foundations, the Barton Reading System, Lindamood Bell / Seeing Stars, Making Math Real, Handwriting Without Tears, Read Naturally and more. I provide data and share progress monitoring with parents and most importantly, my goal is to boost a child's self esteem. Guiding older students through their required summer reading texts and teaching active reading strategies is something I feel is hugely important for comprehension strategies and developing positive feelings about reading novels for pleasure. Summer is a great time for intensives; please ask about discounted rates for three or more sessions per week.

The Resiliency Workbook / Creative Journaling:
Since the pandemic began five years ago, I have seen too many students struggle with low self esteem, stress and anxiety. Often I have wondered when working with students if they have a learning difference or if their emotions are getting in the way of their learning? A child's ability to learn and find success in school as well as finding happiness in their social lives is critical. Children with low self-esteem face risks including anxiety, depression, social withdrawal, poor academic performance, and unhealthy coping mechanisms that can potentially lead to long-term difficulties in relationships and overall well-being. I am excited to announce my new service: Resiliency sessions for children (ages 8 -12). This initiative is tailored to assist students in tackling issues related to low self-esteem, stress, or anxiety.

We'll be mostly using "The Resiliency Workbook for Kids" by Caren Baruch-Feldman. This workbook for kids offers engaging activities grounded in evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and positive psychology. Your child will learn how to “make friends with” their emotions, focus on the things in life that make them happy, and connect with what really matters to them. Finally, your child will discover how helping others can make them feel good about themselves, so they can move beyond feelings like sadness, fear, and anger. Resilience can help kids stay strong and recover from the psychological impact of stress which impacts learning. This workbook will help your child find the tools needed to build resilience in the face of stress, so they can bounce back even better.  For samples of the workbook, please click on this link: https://www.amazon.com/Resilience-Workbook-Kids-Activities-Challenges/dp/1684039169

We will be reading uplifting stories about resilience and overcoming obstacles from thoughtfully chosen texts. We will also work on journaling activities with my collection of art supplies where children will enhance their self-expression.
