WELCOME KATIE HECKER!

We are so excited to announce our new associate, Katie Hecker! We have known her as a teacher and admire her intelligence, warmth and deep commitment to her students and families. Katie will be working at our newly expanded offices on Oak Street and her summer schedule is filling up quickly. As a certified elementary teacher, Katie has over 15 years of teaching experience within New Orleans’ independent schools. During this time, she developed a passion for supporting students with learning differences. As a result, she pursued a Professional Certificate in Educational Therapy from University of California, Riverside. She has experience with a variety of structured literacy programs, including training in the Orton-Gillingham based Wilson Reading System.


With a BA in psychology and an MS in Child Development and Family Relations, Katie is well versed in both the psychosocial as well as educational needs of children. She has experience working with school-based Learning Specialists, developing and implementing interventions for students with language-based and other learning difficulties. She is looking forward to joining the NOLA Learning Support team and their mission of addressing individual learning needs of students from around the city.


  • Born and raised in New Orleans (graduated from Isidore Newman School and Louisiana State University)
